Terms of Service

Please read these terms carefully before using our vehicle rental platform.

Introduction and Acceptance of Terms

These Terms of Service ("Terms") govern your access to and use of the carbergen.com website and any vehicle rental services facilitated through this platform in Bergen, Norway. By accessing the site, browsing available car categories, or completing a reservation, you confirm that you have read, understood, and agree to be bound by these Terms in full.

If you do not agree with any part of these Terms, you must discontinue use of this platform immediately. These Terms apply to all visitors, registered users, and customers who complete or attempt to complete a vehicle booking through carbergen.com.

carbergen.com acts as an intermediary platform connecting travellers with independent car rental suppliers operating in and around Bergen, Norway, including pickup locations at Bergen Airport Flesland (BGO), central Bergen, and surrounding districts. The specific rental agreement governing your booking is also subject to the supplier's own terms and conditions, which will be presented at or before the time of pickup.

Eligibility Requirements for Car Rental in Bergen, Norway

To be eligible to book a vehicle through this platform, you must meet the following criteria:

Minimum Age

The standard minimum driver age for standard vehicle categories is 21 years. For premium, large SUV, and 7-seater categories, the minimum age is typically 25 years. A young driver surcharge may apply for drivers between 21 and 24 years of age. This fee is set by the individual rental supplier and is disclosed during the booking flow. No additional deposit is required solely on the basis of age when booking through our no-deposit eligible supplier options.

Driving Licence Requirements

All drivers must hold a full, valid driving licence that has been held for a minimum of one year prior to the rental start date. The following licences are accepted by most suppliers in Norway without additional documentation:

  • European Union and European Economic Area licences
  • United Kingdom full driving licences
  • United States and Canadian driver's licences
  • Australian and New Zealand licences

Drivers holding licences issued outside these regions must carry a valid International Driving Permit (IDP) alongside their national licence. Norwegian road law requires that licences in non-Latin script (such as Arabic, Chinese, or Cyrillic) must always be accompanied by a certified translation or an IDP. It is the driver's responsibility to obtain the correct documentation before travel.

Additional Drivers

Additional drivers may be added to a booking for a fee as disclosed at checkout. All additional drivers must meet the same eligibility requirements listed above and must be present at pickup with their own valid licence.

Bookings, Reservations, and Cancellation Policy

Reservations made through carbergen.com are subject to vehicle availability at the time of booking. A confirmed booking confirmation will be sent to the email address provided at the time of reservation.

Free Cancellation

Most bookings facilitated through this platform offer free cancellation up to 48 hours before the scheduled pickup time. The exact cancellation window is displayed on the booking summary page before payment is finalised. Cancellations made within this window at no charge will receive a full refund to the original payment method within 5 to 10 business days.

Late Cancellations and No-Shows

Cancellations made after the free cancellation window may be subject to a partial or full cancellation fee as specified in the rate conditions shown during booking. If a customer fails to collect the vehicle at the agreed pickup location and time without prior notice, the full booking value may be forfeited. No-show policy details vary by supplier and are disclosed at the time of booking.

Amendments

Requests to amend pickup date, time, or location are subject to vehicle availability and may result in a revised rate. Amendment requests should be directed to [email protected] as early as possible before the rental start date.

Pricing, Payment, and Optional Extras

All prices displayed on this platform are shown in the currency indicated at the time of search and include applicable VAT where required under Norwegian tax regulations. The total price shown at checkout is the amount you will pay, with no hidden booking fees added by carbergen.com.

No Deposit and No Credit Card Booking

Where a supplier offers a no-deposit option, no pre-authorisation hold will be placed on your card at the time of booking. Debit cards are accepted on all no-deposit eligible categories. Some premium categories and specific suppliers may still require a credit card at the pickup counter for security purposes; this will always be disclosed clearly before you confirm your reservation.

Optional Extras

The following optional extras may be added to your booking at an additional daily or flat rate, as shown in the booking flow:

  • GPS navigation device
  • Child seat, infant seat, or booster seat
  • Additional driver registration
  • Ski rack or roof box (seasonal availability)
  • Roadside assistance upgrade

Fuel Policy

The applicable fuel policy is shown on each vehicle listing and confirmed in your booking voucher. Common policies used by Bergen suppliers include full-to-full (collect with a full tank, return with a full tank) and prepaid fuel options. Returning a vehicle with less fuel than collected under a full-to-full policy will result in a refuelling charge applied by the supplier.

Permitted and Prohibited Use of Rental Vehicles

All rental vehicles must be used in accordance with Norwegian traffic law and the conditions of the rental agreement. The following activities are strictly prohibited and may result in immediate termination of the rental, full forfeiture of the deposit or security hold, and additional charges for damage or recovery:

  • Driving under the influence of alcohol, drugs, or any substance that impairs driving ability. Norway enforces a strict drink-drive limit of 0.2 mg/ml blood alcohol content.
  • Off-road or unsurfaced track use unless the vehicle is specifically designated for such use by the supplier.
  • Participation in racing, speed testing, or any form of competitive driving event.
  • Subletting, lending, or transferring the vehicle to any person not named on the rental agreement.
  • Using the vehicle to transport paying passengers for commercial purposes without prior written authorisation from the supplier.
  • Crossing international borders without prior written consent from the supplier. Travel to Sweden or Denmark by road from Bergen requires explicit border-crossing approval, which must be obtained before departure.
  • Towing or pushing any other vehicle or trailer unless the rental vehicle has been approved for towing and this is confirmed in the rental agreement.

The renter is responsible for all fines, penalties, toll charges, and parking fees incurred during the rental period. Bergen operates an AutoPASS toll system on several approach roads and tunnels, including routes toward Åsane, Flesland, and Nesttun. These charges will be passed on to the renter plus an applicable administration fee if not settled directly.

Insurance, Collision Damage Waiver, and Excess Liability

All vehicle rentals facilitated through carbergen.com include a standard level of insurance cover as required under Norwegian law, plus a Collision Damage Waiver (CDW) that limits the renter's financial liability in the event of an accident or vehicle damage. The CDW does not eliminate liability entirely - an excess amount applies, representing the maximum amount the renter is responsible for in the event of a claim.

Standard CDW Excess

The standard excess amount for each vehicle category is disclosed on the vehicle listing page and confirmed in your booking voucher. Typical excess amounts range from approximately NOK 5,000 to NOK 20,000 depending on the vehicle category, supplier, and season.

Optional Full Coverage / Excess Waiver

An optional Super CDW or excess waiver product may be available at additional cost, reducing the excess to zero or a nominal amount. Where offered, this option is presented clearly during the booking process. Full coverage options typically cover windscreen, tyre, and underbody damage that may be excluded from the standard CDW.

Exclusions

Insurance cover and CDW are void in all cases where the damage or loss arises from prohibited use as described in the Vehicle Use section above, or where the driver was under the influence of alcohol or drugs at the time of the incident. Personal belongings left in the vehicle are not covered by the rental insurance.

Limitation of Liability

carbergen.com operates as a comparison and booking intermediary platform and is not itself a car rental supplier. The contractual relationship for the physical rental of a vehicle is between the customer and the relevant rental supplier. carbergen.com is not a party to that contract and accepts no liability for the actions, omissions, vehicle condition, or service quality of any third-party supplier.

To the fullest extent permitted under applicable law, carbergen.com's total aggregate liability to any user arising from or related to the use of this platform shall not exceed the total booking fee paid by that user to carbergen.com in connection with the specific booking giving rise to the claim. carbergen.com is not liable for indirect, consequential, or special damages including loss of enjoyment, missed connections, or travel disruption arising from supplier delays or vehicle unavailability.

Nothing in these Terms limits liability for death or personal injury caused by negligence, fraud, or any other liability that cannot be excluded under Norwegian or applicable law.

Governing Law and Jurisdiction

These Terms of Service are governed by and construed in accordance with the laws of Norway. Any dispute arising from or relating to these Terms or your use of the carbergen.com platform shall be subject to the exclusive jurisdiction of the courts of Bergen, Norway, unless mandatory consumer protection laws in your country of residence provide otherwise.

If any provision of these Terms is found to be unlawful, void, or unenforceable, that provision shall be deemed severable and shall not affect the validity and enforceability of the remaining provisions.
